Hailing from Scotland and globally recognised as one of the most exciting young producers and DJs to come from the scene in recent years, Chris Lake has made the DJ elite sit up and take notice. His innovative productions are backed by the likes of Sasha, Kleinenberg and Fanciulli while his dynamic and energetic DJ performances have given Chris a major platform on which to proclaim his new found status.
2005 was a landmark year for Chris. His collaborations with Rhythm Code under various guises received the right kind of attention from journalists and clubbers alike; however it was his solo productions which provided Chris with a new level of exposure. The singles ‘One Too Many’ and ‘Release’ had the underground wagging their tongues, but it was his smash hit ‘Changes’ that catapulted his name into the record boxes of DJs across the globe. Tong made the record Essential New Tune twice (in November 05 and May 06), and he was quick to proclaim Chris as the “best thing to come from Scotland since Mylo” A plaudit that immensely flattered Lake, although by his own admission was “a little confused” by!
‘Changes’ made the UK charts (#27) and gained column inches in tabloid papers and national magazines. The popularity of the track quickly spread from the dance floor to the main stream with the rest of the world keen to follow. The success of one track saw Chris’ DJ schedule skyrocket from local to global. As ‘Changes’ did the rounds across the world’s hotspots Chris found himself playing gigs in Brazil, Russia, Serbia, France, Australia, Tokyo, Shanghai, Dubai and many more destinations in between. The follow up ‘Carry me Away’ is due out on his ever growing ‘Rising Music’ imprint, and is a great example of Chris’ diversity as a producer. The blissed-out vocal track is also set for big things and has been heavily promoted at WMC 2007.
In 2006 Chris set up record label Rising Music to release his own material. ‘One too many’, ‘fantasy’ and ‘release’ have already been immense club hits. Chris also signed and remixed Sebastien Leger’s ‘Hypnotized’, which has now been licensed to MOS for re-release in 2007. His collaboration with Sébastien Leger ‘The Mistakes EP’ was a hit with phenomenal global attention that has prompted the pair to work together again. Chris also set up Rising Trax which caters for the more underground records Chris wants to sign. Tracks forthcoming include a new double A-side from Kingclip (new guise of Trisco), Jaymo, and man of the moment Micky Slim.
2007 follows with even more productions, collaborations and big remixes (Robbie William’s ‘She’s Madonna’ is the latest single to get a helping of Chris’s Midas touch). He has also released a ‘Summer Daze’ compilation in Australia in March which coincided with the Summer Daze festival and Chris’s tour dates there. We can also expect many more original productions as Chris puts the finishing touches to his debut artist album he hopes to have released by the end of 2007 |
